Cooling fan against convection fan
Two motors, unrelated jobs, two quite different bills. The convection fan lives inside the cavity behind a round cover on the back wall, and its purpose is moving hot air around your food; you hear it when a fan setting is chosen. The cooling fan lives outside the cavity, draws room air across the control area and pushes it out through a vent by the door or the trim. Air you can feel at that vent with no fan mode selected is the cooling one.
What happens when it stops
Nothing dramatic on the first evening, which is why it gets ignored. Over months, heat that the fan used to carry away stays behind the fascia, and everything living there — the control, the display, the wiring, the top edge of the door seal — ages faster than it should. Settling a silent cooling fan is far cheaper than the argument about a control board that follows it.
What changing it involves
Reaching it, mostly. The motor is modest; the trim or an outer panel comes off to get at it, and the vent path is examined at the same time, because a blocked outlet makes a healthy fan look dead. Once it is in, the oven runs a full hot cycle and the fascia is felt by hand, the only test worth trusting here.
